Céad Míle Fáilte go 'Shop Irish with Moytura' - August 2002 Updates

The month of August sees us in 'sale frenzie'. See what great deals Irish Shop has for you below. Check out the GalwayNow Magazine - I've become a regular contributor and have a wee piece in this month on Lughnasadh, the Celtic Season of Gathering.

Galway's still reelin' from a feast of festivals. The Film Fleadh and the Arts Festival were crackers and the Galway Races beat all records - YET AGAIN!!!!! The end of July saw the Galway Hurlers packin' their bags and sent home by our kindly neighbours, the Clare Hurlers, and, woe is me, the stout-hearted footballers from the County of the Tribes battled the Kingdom (Kerry) on Sunday August 4th and lost their title! No Galway interest in the championships at all at all this year - must be the weather here in the wesht! We'll just have to shout for Sligo and Clare!

Our Irish Foodhall continues to attract loads of customers. This month we've added a fine selection of Irish Recipe Books to make the mouth water and the saliva run rich! Don't forget the options to bulk buy at much reduced costs. This month Donnelly's have a special promotion, there's 50% off Irish biscuits as well as some Sizzlin' Summer Savings - check it out from Food Ireland directly or follow the Irish Foodhall link above to browse the shelves.

The Irish Ancestry 'department' has loads of new databases added again this month covering both US and UK/Irish information.

Our Scottish Shop has added new stores - pop in and have a look at some of the beautiful products available to you directly from Scotland.

Celtic Links have some really good deals on this month in their T-shirt range and a ringer of a good read all about that 'feminist before her time' the Pirate Queen of Elizabethan times - Grace O'Malley.

When travelling in Ireland you will no doubt meet a few of these guys. Now you can take them home!

Like so many woolly clouds scudding across an emerald sky, Irish sheep appear a placid lot. But they enjoy adventure. Lolling at the edge of winding roads, only to ramble out suddenly in front of oncoming cars!

Granuaile - The Life and Times of Grace O'Malley By Anne Chambers

Granuaile - The Life and Times of Grace O'Malley

The story of Ireland's female pirate, ideal for reading on the beach! Largely forgotton by historians because her role as hero didn't fit with the traditional green cloaked, Catholic image, Grace O'Malley from Mayo, married in Galway, allowed neither social nor political convention deter her ambition. She took a lover, divorced a husband, gave birth to her youngest son on board her ship at sea and made no distinction as to nationality when plundering Irish, English and Spanish ships. This book contains fascinating information about Granuaile and English rule in Ireland in the 16th century and her story is told in an easy to read and logical fashion. Paperback, 215 pages.

Enjoy your Irish Shopping with Moytura and perhaps you'd like to bookmark below us and ramble in again, if only to window-shop! Maybe even send the page link on to a friend or family member?

Don't forget to check out the deals we had for you all last month on the Monthly Promotions page!

Our Irish Shop aims to bring to you the very best from Ireland. Each 'department' in our Irish Shop offers a wide range of high quality Irish products direct to you from Ireland. Those of you reading this may also have British ancestry too. For this reason we have added a Scottish and Welsh Shop with an English one on the way (when God changes the 24 hour day to 36!).

There is a huge amount of interest worldwide in tracing Irish Ancestry and our Ancestry section will guide those undertaking family research both here in Ireland and in North America, with a little bit of information from Australia and New Zealand. The Ancestry 'department' also offers resources from many other countries, particularly other European countries.

We publish a monthly newsletter with tidbits of news from Ireland, and from the West of Ireland in particular with what's-on guides in the western region. The newsletter will offer updates on new products as we add them to the 'store'. Our Festivals page is packed with loads to do and see every month of the year. If you're paying a visit and afraid you'll be 'bored outta yer tree', check out what's on around the Emerald Isle.

Those of you with an interest in Ireland might enjoy a quick visit to our sister site - Moytura.com where you can journey with Mary through some of her favourite places in the West of Ireland and to other places she enjoys visiting a little further afield. Or perhaps relax a while on her Reflections pages or maybe even visit the Circle of Prayer where people all over the world, and from every denonimation (and none), join together to pray for and with each other every day!.

Bon Voyage, Please Drop a Comment into our Guestbook - and Don't Forget.......!
